Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 0 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Engineering Support Specialist. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. As an Engineering Support Specialist in the Surface Ship Systems Engineering organization, the candidate will directly support the Deputy Program Manager, Engineering (DPME). The candidate will work closely with the Integrated Product Team’s (IPT’s) with the execution of cost, schedule, and technical work scope including the coordination of effort estimates and review of hours against required technical tasks. In addition, this position supports: Systems Engineering Reviews, weekly status reporting, tracking and issuing task numbers, generates Baseline Change Requests, charge numbers, Variance Reports, Risks and Opportunities, Workload Forecast, and executes program activities in accordance with established company procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Recommends, interprets, and/or implements company and internal administrative policies and proceduresWill prepare budgeting, project scheduling, and statistical reports as requiredPerforms detailed financial and analytical activities for a program, or organizationPrepares, processes, monitors and updates required reports and documents including budgets, schedules, purchase requests and formsPrepares, develops and updates charts and graphics for presentationCoordinates small projects to support the organizationDevelops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexityContributes to the completion of organizational projects and goalsRepresents organization on specific projectsMay be subject-matter expert on the use of one or more business-related tools such as company's scheduling, effort estimating, and/or status reporting systemsThis is the intermediate level in a field of specializationKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Frequent use and considerable knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standardsGeneral application of concepts and principlesRefers to policies and practices for guidanceWorks under only very general supervisionWork is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracyErrors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to rectifyFrequent internal company and external contactsConsiderable ability to perform all responsibilities associated with the positionGrasps and applies new information quickly; handles more complex assignmentsShows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little directionPREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

Engineering Management degree preferred

Considerable knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Preparation of Presentations

Preparation of reports and graphs

Participate in program and technical meetings

Document and communicate all resulting actions and assign completion dates, completion criteria and responsible individuals

Load and/or create Action Item databases and report status of actions

Assure completion of all process documentation

Considerable ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends

Develop and provide innovative and creative solutions to ensure efficiencies are in place

Highly motivated self-starter who can pay close attention to detail

Team player with strong communication skills,facilitates communication as appropriate to all stakeholders
